SLO Bike Thursday

San Luis Obispo is a small city with big advantages.
We live within minutes of work, school, coffee, trails, the farmers market, and each other. The weather is great. The distances are short. This is one of the most bikeable communities in California!
Bike Thursday is a simple idea:
One day a week, we choose to bike where we would normally drive.
Bike to work.
Bike to school.
Bike to lunch.
Bike to the store.
Bike to meet a friend.
Try it once. If you can’t bike everywhere, bike somewhere.
If you like it, do it every day.

Why Thursday?
Because culture is built on rhythm.
When something happens every week, it becomes normal.
Imagine this:
It’s Thursday morning.
You notice more bikes at intersections.
More helmets at coffee shops.
Fuller bike racks downtown.
You think, “Oh right — it’s Thursday.”

Why it Matters
When more of us ride — even one day a week:
Streets feel calmer.

Local businesses get more foot and bike traffic.

Parking pressure eases.

Kids see adults modeling independence.

We reduce emissions without arguing about it.

We remember this town isn’t too big to move through under our own power.

The Vision
San Luis Obispo has always prided itself on being thoughtful, forward-looking, and community-oriented.
Bike Thursday is a small, joyful reminder of who we are:
A town where distances are short.
Where community is visible.
Where sustainability is lived, not just discussed.
Where vibrancy comes from people being out in the world together.
Every Thursday, we ride!
